Cavemen win Artesia Invitational

The Cavemen won Thursday's Artesia Invitational, while the Cavegirls came in second place.

Seven Cavemen cross country runners crossed the finish line with pride, winning the Artesia Invitational on Thursday.

Cory Calvani (17 minutes, 8 seconds) came in third overall in the boys race, while Michael Sims (17:34) was sixth overall. Riley Smith (18:22), Kevin Calvani (18:35), Garret Aldez (18:52), James Lane (19:15) and Dane Johnson (19:20) came in 11th, 13th, 16th, 19th and 20th, respectively.

Cavegirls run stellar race

Carlsbad came in second overall in the girls race. Kourtney Taylor (21:20) and Baylee Lynn (21:23) came in fifth and seventh place, respectively. Emily Young (22:39) and Karli Clarkston (22:51) came in 15th and 16th place, respectively.

Carlsbad will have a bye week. They are scheduled to run again Oct. 13, 3:30 p.m., at the Hobbs Invitational.
