CARLSBAD — Carlsbad’s offense continued spreading the wealth, with multiple players attacking the net en route to a 4-1 victory over Alamogordo on Thursday.

The Cavegirls found the back of the net via mid-range shots and breakaway chances, even charging at the box and shooting point-blank.

Carlsbad also got a little help from mother nature to start the match. With some wind gusts affecting how the ball traveled in the air, senior forward Lauryn Wade scored the opening goal off her own corner kick when the ball curved slightly left and went in.

"We all can just play to each other's feet, and you never know who's going to score that night," said Wade, who also had one assist. "When you've got more than one person, you've got to know who to cover. One person can do one weird corner kick and make it or cross and make it."

Carlsbad's Madison Austin dribbles the ball in the first half Thursday against Alamogordo.

Senior midfielder Julie Thompson added a goal off a deflection from about 10 yards out.

Senior forward Tessa Graham scored two second-half goals, including one from about 15 yards point-blank. Sophomore midfielder Gabby Aragon had an assist on that goal.

And even though Carlsbad scored just four goals, multiple players seized chances to fire shots.

Senior midfielders Ashtin Rhoades and Reilly Salness got involved by bolting in from the far right corner a couple times and taking shots.

“Anyone on the pitch can definitely score or make a contribution going for it. Who are you going to shut down right now? It’s easy to stop one kid, it’s hard to stop multiple kids,” coach Misty Long said.

Alamogordo's Angel Flores scored the Tigers' lone goal from the far right edge of the box during the second half.

Carlsbad (2-0) will play at 6 p.m. next Thursday at Goddard.
