CARLSBAD -- The Carlsbad boys basketball team will try to beat Hobbs for the third time in eight days in front of the home crowd, hosting the District 4-6A tournament championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Cavemen (20-7) won the first meeting with the Eagles, 63-46, last Friday at Tasker Arena in Hobbs – forcing a district regular season title tiebreaker game Monday at Artesia.

Carlsbad won that game, 66-49. And according to coach Jamaal Brown, the Cavemen won their first district regular season title in 44 years.
