Carlsbad swim team struggles as a whole

Despite a rough outing in team results, the Carlsbad swim team produced some solid individual results at the Seminole (Texas) Invitational on Saturday.

On the boys' side, Cavemen sophomore Tony Serrano finished 12th out of 49 swimmers in the boys 50-meter freestyle in 30.37 seconds. Serrano also finished 12th out of 46 in the boys 100-meter freestyle in one minute, 7.63 seconds.

Eighth grader Tyler Plant (1:18.63) finished seventh out of 20 in the boys 100-meter backstroke.

On the girls' side, Cavegirls sophomores Ashley Young (33.51 seconds) and Scoti Wagner (34.23 seconds) finished 11th and 13th, respectively, out of 60 swimmers in the girls 50-meter freestyle. Young also finished fifth out of 26 in the girls 100-meter breaststroke at 1:35.27.

The boys finished 10th out of 12 teams with 80 points, while the girls came in 10th out of 11 teams with 38 points.

Carlsbad will return to the pool on Jan. 8 and 9 for the Andrews (Texas) Invitational.
